I wasn't thinking, if you choose to try the method I described, it will have to be an even number of side links from the existing cross link due to the alternating position of the side links

A while back there were some problems with these generators that came with a 10hp Tecumseh motor with the infamous "un adjustable carburator".Well after the Y2K scare was over, my dad picked up a "used" one that was never started .I could not get this thing to run right, I had the carb off looking for dirt, tested the ignition, all looked good, plus there was no consistancy to the miss that it would get.Getting it fixed under warranty is useless, because legally a dealer can only replace with original equipment, hence another useless unadjustable carb, we can thank the EPA for this. I did some research and got part# TC632697 which is a replacement carb with needle adjustments, now the problems are over. It cost me $64.10,which I know shouldn't have to be spent on something new, but it drives me nuts when something doesn't run right.

I would like to know how you Boomer users rate the 914a mid mount mower(60 and 72 inch)for the quality of the cut. I currently mow with a small(42 inch)Toro zero radius mower, which gives me an excellent cut, but it is an awful lot of miles when mowing 3.5 acres. I have a 9n with a 72 inch Bush Hog finish mower which cuts real nice, but the maneuverabilty with it is terrible.It takes about the same amount of time with each. I have driven a TC29d in the dealers lot, but they are 40 miles away, which makes getting a demo a little tough.I don't want see how it cuts on someone elses yard, just mine. My yard is flat with not many obstacles,but I keep it extemely well maintained.I would like to consilidate my various equipment into one unit. Also how much vacuum does the deck produce for blade lift and even discharge? Thanks in advance.

Dow makes a product called Confront. Go to dowagro.com and go into turf and check it out. It DOES work, but is not cheap. About a $100-115 a gallon, but it goes a long way, it also works on 35 or so varieties of broad leaf weeds, so you can spray your whole yard with it.This will eliminate it root and all,as one of the other posts says that he does it every 3 years, I on the otherhand would only want to do it once.I have put down alot of this product with good results(that is on the woody type weeds,it is hard to beat a 2,4,d based product on broad leaf weeds, Confront has no 2,4,d)Not to mention I'm lazy. As far as 3 point, Landpride is hard to beat.As for a walk behind/self propelled unit you may want to check out a Ryan. I guess you mean a core aerator, I would check out Woods(yes, the mower people)or Millcreek Mfg., they are both nice units, and also Ryan for a small self propelled unit. I have used all equipment mentioned.Re-post if you want more specifics. Good luck

Michael is right they are two different animals. I'm from eastern Pa. and have installed and renovated many lawns proffesionally.I have 3 acres of my own and suffer from the "bare spot clump" syndrome, but then so does everyone else who had a quality lawn.Depending where in Pa. you are your ground is not frozen. Now is the time to aerate,you will have 3 months for the plugs to break down.Depending on the size of the area to be done, you may want 3point or walk behind. The 3 point requires added weight and a moderate speed which helps to drive the tines into the surface, slower is not better. The walk behind units work better at a slower speed.As far as overseeding, a land pride is hard to beat in 3 point, and Ryan for a walk behind, and both can be rented.DON'T use a Blue Bird overseeder, their thatchers are good, but the overseeder is just an attachment that hangs on the back of their thatcher.The type of grass you use will depend on your rate, if your using a rye,fescue,blue grass blend, seed at 2.5 lbs. per 1000 square feet on an overseed,if is totally bare double the rate. Overseeders have charts for the proper settings, base your setting on ryegrass.Don't be to anxious to get the seed down early, moisture is only half of the recipe, you need the ground to be warm enough for germination.So basically the grass will only germinate in April/May anyway.If the seed is put down to early and it sits there wet and possibly gets snowed on besides, there is a chance the seed can mold or rot. It's not real likely, but it can happen.And lastly be selective on your choice of preemergent herbicide, if you use one, because they prevent the germination of grassy weed seeds(crabgrass,etc.)but they also have the same effect on freshly sown grass seed. New Holland offers a collection system that has a blower that is driven from the right hand spindle of the mid mower and the bags are supported ( I think?)by the three point or it attaches via a bracket and the weight is supported by the draw bar.It is in the $1500 range.
